The EU announced the nominees for the first EU Organic Awards, launched in February of this year, last July. A total of 24 nominees from 11 Member States where drawn out of over 200 submissions. 8 Awards will be attributed during a ceremony held at the EU Organic Day on 23 September in Brussels.
In a previous article, we’ve announced the nominees in the “Best Organic Farmer (female)” and “Best Organic Farmer (male)” categories. Eighteen more nominees in six other categories are still in the running for an Award.
France is doing well in the category “Best Organic Region”, with two of its regions nominated: the southernmost region of Occitanie and the central region of Centre-Val-de-Loire. The Western region of Comunitat Valenciana in Spain is the third nominee in this category.
In the “Best Organic City” category, Austria provides two out of the three nominees with Gemeinde Seeham am Obtertrumer See (Salzburg) and Stadt Wien. The Municipality of Troyan in Bulgaria is the third city nominated in this category.
The EU Organic Awards were conceived as a means to increase public awareness of organics, as well as to reward the most innovative organic actors from farmer to restaurants who contribute to reducing the impact on climate and environment, and whose actions will help realise the ambitions of the Farm to Fork and Biodiversity strategies.
