CEMA appoints Jelte Wiersma as new Secretary General

CEMA, the European association representing the manufacturers of agricultural machinery, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Jelte Wiersma as new Secretary General. A Dutch national, Mr. Wiersma joins CEMA following a 20 year career in journalism. Mr. Wiersma has been an EU Affairs Correspondent in Brussels since 2014. He is specialized in agriculture, international affairs and trade.

Jelte Wiersma commented: “I’m delighted to join a great team to represent the interests of Europe’s agricultural machinery industry at such a pivotal time. Seeking a proactive European agenda for the industry with the support of EU institutions and stakeholders will be a priority. Advanced Farm machinery and solutions are key enablers to deliver sustainable farming and global food security.”

Folllowing a transition period, Mr. Wiersma will succeed Mr. Jérôme Bandry on Friday the 16th of December 2022. CEMA President Thierry Krier said: “Mr Wiersma’s in-depth knowledge of European affairs and politics, extensive network of contacts within the EU institutions and Brussels stakeholders, communication and representation skills make him a great strategic fit for the position. He brings a long term personal and professional connection with agriculture as well as a great understanding of the related agricultural policies, technologies, societal and environmental challenges. I would very much like to thank Mr. Bandry for his leadership, his achievements, and his unremitting commitment to CEMA over the past 5 years. I wish him the very best for his future endeavors.”
